After passing the 100-105 3 weeks ago today I sat for the 200-105 part 2 exam and passed that with 883 points at a passing score of 811 as well.
Here’s my exam experience hoping it might prove useful to some people.
I had a total of 51 questions which included 3 simulations consisting of 4 questions each. I might have gotten lucky again with no device configuration tasks, these simulations only required using show commands to analyze the configuration. While these kind of questions require a lot more time than normal ones, they actually aren’t too hard. This is because for most answer options you should know exactly what to look for in the configs, and then it just turns into a process of deterministic elimination without any ambiguity you sometimes have in normal standalone multiple-choice questions.
I think the only commands I needed to answer these simulation questions were basically just:
show running-config
show ip interface brief
show ip route
I had one question where I’m fairly sure that none of the answers could be considered correct in the context given. Two other questions were IMO very poorly worded, leaving much room for interpretation of multiple correct answers. I commented on them and hope this will be addressed.
A lot of people seem scared of BGP which is now on the blueprint for v3, but I only got a very basic question on it. IPv6 questions were rather basic as well. There were fewer ACL questions than I had expected.
My exam preparation consisted of mainly:
- using packet tracer for layer 2 topics
- using gns3 for routing and all other topics
(Yes, I have never touched a physical Cisco device in my entire life)
- Free Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Online Tutorials and Study Guides
- Cisco Networking Academy
- PacketLife resources, especially the Cheat Sheets
- various training videos on youtube, for example just by watching basic introduction and configuration videos on GRE, DMVPN and PPPoE I knew enough to answer questions on the exam
- reading in the community here and in other places like reddit
- google whenever you feel like you don’t understand something
As in the previous exam, my strongest areas were Switching, Routing and WAN while my infrastructure maintenance/services scores were not especially impressive (actually I don’t know why, because I felt confident with most of the questions I got).
